How Do You Keep Your Cat Entertained With Cat Toys Made From Toilet Rolls?

2 Apr 2020.

Wonder where all the toilet rolls have gone? This could be one explanation: Toilet rolls have been used to entertain cats during self-isolation. Cat toys made from toilet rolls are a great way to bond with your cat and provide stimulation. This will help release their pent-up energy and minimise behavioural issues.

Here are 4 DIY cat toys made with toilet rolls

*Animal Wised has shared some great ideas.

1. Cat Cardboard Ball with a surprise

Create a fun and entertaining way for your kitty to earn his treat.

What you’ll need:

  • One or two toilet rolls
  • Scissors
  • Your cat’s favourite treat

Instructions:

  1. Cut the cardboard tube into 5 rings
  2. Insert rings into each other to create a ball with small gaps
  3. Add a treat or catnip

2. Kong Style Cat Toy

A slightly more tricky way for your kitty to earn his treat, but we’re sure he will figure it out 🙂

What you’ll need:

  • One toilet roll
  • Craft knife
  • Your cat’s favourite treat

Instructions:

  1. Make small holes in the tube with a craft knife
  2. Fold one end of the toilet roll over to close it
  3. Add cat treats inside
  4. Close the other end of the toilet roll

Note: Don’t make the holes too small or the cat will never get his treat out and this may cause unwanted stress. Remember, your toilet roll toy is supposed to be entertaining for your cat!

3. Cat Hunting Toy

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it’s a toilet roll! This is a fun toy to help your cat practice his pouncing skills.

What you’ll need:

  • One or two toilet rolls
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon

Instructions:

  1. Cut both ends of the toilet roll into strips so that you get a fringe effect
  2. Pierce the body of the tube and add a ribbon

4. Cat Cardboard Pyramid

This cat toy is great to exercise and test your cat’s cognitive abilities.

What you’ll need:

  • Several toilet rolls depending on big you want to go
  • Glue
  • Clothes pegs
  • Your cat’s favourite treat

Instructions:

  1. Line up and join toilet rolls together to create your base
  2. Do a second line with one less toilet roll than the first and glue down
  3. Continue this process until you have one toilet roll on the top
  4. Use the clothes pegs to help hold your pyramid together until the glue has dried.
  5. Place treats inside different tubes for your cat to find

We hope you and your kitty will have hours of fun at home together.

Ps. Cat Sitters if you don’t have a kitty of your own, why not make some for your furry clients? You could even show off your creativity!
